SET Employee Benefits Consulting Services
The licensed insurance consultants within SET Employee Benefits provide free consulting services to districts to help them comply with the bidding requirements established by the Public Employees Health Benefit Act. Also known as PA 106, law requires school districts to solicit four bids whenever a new health care plan is established, or every three years if continuing the same plan. This means that any change in a medical, dental or vision plan immediately triggers the bidding requirement. By 2010, all districts will be required to obtain four bids before deciding to continue any existing medical, dental or vision plan.
Districts can relieve themselves of this administrative burden by allowing the licensed insurance consultants at SET to assist them in the bidding process. Unlike many insurance consultants, who charge thousands of dollars to prepare a Request for Proposal, SET does not charge for this service. At no cost to the district, SET will:
- Consult with the district to determine what health care options it needs;
- Develop a Request for Proposal and submit it to a wide variety of insurance carriers; and
- Analyze the resulting bids and present all options to the district for its final decision.
Once we provide a district with competitive quotes and an analysis of the responses, the purchasing decision is in the district’s hands. Although SET is an agent of various insurance carriers, its consultants maintain objectivity in their recommendations. Should a district choose to place coverage with an insurance company that SET represents, our organization receives a commission; our insurance consultants and sales executives do not.
