Document, Discipline, Dismiss: Avoid Wrongful Termination

Every school administrator struggles to improve the effectiveness of underperformers—faculty and staff alike. With personnel costs comprising the lion’s share of school budgets, districts can’t afford to hang on to employees who won’t perform to expectations. To help its members manage the risk associated with the discipline and discharge process, the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool is hosting a series of seminars in February 2008. Geared specifically for school administrators and supervisors, the program will equip particpants with the tools needed to address performance issues. The 5-hour program will provide a structure for having difficult performance-related discussions, developing a remediation plan, and creating the necessary paper trail to support employment actions, if necessary.

This full-day, on-site seminar is designed specifically for school administrators and supervisors. It will provide legally fit and educationally sound processes to help them effectively address performance issues. This employment-related risk management training will provide a solid foundation for decision making as the school year progresses. Participation in the seminar will help members protect thier districts from costly and morale-eroding lawsuits, while improving employee performance.

Particpation is limited to members of the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool, members of the Michigan Association of School Personnel Administrators, and members of the Michigan Negotiators Association.
